教授メッセージ

「病気にならないですむ社会をつくれないか?」

大学で医学を学んでいく中で、神秘的とも言える生命のメカニズムに魅了される一方、どうしようもなくそのホメオスタシスが崩壊していく病、そして死の現実。その中で私が感じたのは、どうすれば治療できるか?ではなく、どうしたら防げるのか?でした。疾病を治癒できるようになることは素晴らしいことです。しかし、多くの疾患が治療法を待つばかりで治癒しない現実もあります。そうであれば、疾患に罹患しないようにする方がいいのではないか? そのために、変えられる社会環境はまだまだあるのではないだろうか? と考え、公衆衛生学を志しました。

縁あって、はじめに具体的に取り組んだのは児童虐待の予防研究でした。どうすれば病院で見逃すことなくより確実に虐待ケースを把握できるか、といった研究を始めたのです。一は万が母と言われるように、ここから様々な形で研究を展開することができ、虐待以外にも社会格差やソーシャルキャピタル研究、子どもの貧困と健康に関する研究、被災地における子どものメンタルヘルス、周産期における栄養疫学、高齢者におけるライフコース疫学、等々に携わって参りました。多種多様のように見えますが、その根本とする命題は常に同じです。またそれ故に、時代とともに変化する疾病構造、重要となる環境要因の変化に敏感に反応し、これからも新しい分野に挑戦し、人々をより健康に、幸福にしていくお手伝いのできる研究を展開して参りたいと決意しています。

教室のミッション

国際健康推進医学分野は、どのような社会環境が人々の疾病罹患を予防し、そして健康をもたらすのかについて、ライフコースにわたる視点で明らかにすることを目的としています。そして、得られたエビデンスを政策やプログラムとして社会実装することを目指します。


研究テーマ

この分野では、以下の研究テーマを主に扱っています。

  • 社会疫学(社会格差やソーシャルキャピタルの健康影響)
  • ライフコース疫学(胎児期、幼少期の環境の長期的影響、養育環境の健康影響、国際比較研究)
  • 子ども虐待(特に揺さぶられ症候群の予防)
  • メンタルヘルス(特に妊娠期、育児期の親のメンタルヘルス、被災地のメンタルヘルス、子どものメンタルヘルス)
  • 栄養疫学(妊娠期から子ども期における栄養、食環境)
  • 環境保健(物理的環境、気候変動)
  • 産業保健(職場の人間関係と健康に関する研究)

研究方針

この分野では、以下の方針で研究を進めています。

  • 「面白くて、役に立つ」研究を行う。
  • 「論文化することによって初めて社会に還元される」ゆえに、論文の生産性を一つの活動指標とする。
  • 「一人を大切にする」との信念のもと、人材育成に力をいれる。
  • 「相互扶助」「多様な分野の交流」が重要であるとの考えから、チームワークをもって研究を進める。

教育方針

この分野では、以下のような公衆衛生学に関する研究を実施するスキル、そして社会に還元するスキルを習得することができます。

  • 現場や日常の疑問や関心から、解決すべき課題(リサーチクエスチョン)を設定できるようになります。
  • 統計学の基礎から習熟し、統計ソフトStata等を用いた高度な解析手法(多変量解析、マルチレベル解析、傾向スコア法、多重代入法、媒介分析等)を習得することができます。
  • 質問紙の作成、フィールド調査、行政等との関わり方、研究デザインの仕方を学ぶことができます。
  • 公衆衛生学、疫学、臨床研究に関する英文原著論文を執筆することができるようになります。

研究室の歴史

沿革

本研究室は、1956年4月1日に公衆衛生学講座として開設され、1957年1月1日に加納六郎教授が初代教授に就任した。第二代教授は1963年6月1日から前田博教授、第三代教授は1987年1月1日から高野健人教授がつとめた。2000年4月1日に、本学の大学院大学への改組に伴い健康推進医学分野と国際保健医療協力学分野の2分野が発足した。その後、2015年4月1日に2分野の合併により国際健康推進医学分野となり、2016年4月1日に藤原武男教授が第四代教授に就任した。同日、同分野から分かれて発足した国際保健医療事業開発学分野に、中村桂子教授が就任した。
